Russian national program ”education” creates opportunities for Finnish education companies

High quality of education is crucial for majority of Russian families. At the same time, 32% of people in Russia and about 40% in Moscow consider the quality of education in Russia nowadays as low. On a governmental level the need for changes in educational sector is admitted. The Government has declared the increase in quality of education as the main target and many projects are going to be realized during nest 5 years. The biggest potential for Finnish companies is in the segment of private education, both school and preschool.

Private sector companies are very interested in having the best new practices in education and have resources for getting them. This segment is developing the most successfully in Moscow, St. Petersburg and some other big cities. The share of private education is growing and according to experts’ estimations, is going to grow 300% in 5 years.

Russian national program ”Education” creates opportunities for Finnish education companies.

As Finland as known as a country with high level of education, there is a substantial demand for Finnish solutions and competences around the world. Finnish offering has a big potential in different market segments.

Main problems relate to lack of schools and educational facilities, outdated equipment, programs, didactic materials and tools as well as pedagogical approach. Another problem is lack of high qualified teaches, who are aware of new needs in education and motivated to use new methods. There is a big demand for teachers’ training programs.

Market is very big and actively growing. 17 mln children are studying in schools in Russia, almost 9 mln are attending kindergartens. Total market volume exceeds 20 bln euro.

In the segment of state education, that takes the major share, main development is planned in the framework on National project ”Education”, that is going to be implemented during next 5 years.

The total budget of the project is 10 bln euro, and the project plans and targets include:

  • construction of new schools, kindergartens and centers for additional education
  • modernization of learning environment
  • development of IT tools in teaching and in managing in education
  • active using of online education
  • updating content of education: programs, evaluation criteria, tools and methodology
  • teachers training development

In each of these areas Finnish offering can be of interest. The biggest potential for Finnish companies is in the segment of private education, both school and preschool. Private sector companies are very interested in having the best new practices in education and have resources for getting them. This segment is developing the most successfully in Moscow, St. Petersburg and some other big cities. The share of private education is growing and according to experts’ estimations, is going to grow 300% in 5 years. The main driver of the growth is parents’ dissatisfaction with state schools’ work.

Large Russian companies are coming to the educational market starting their projects developing digital educational platforms and tools.

Private companies on education market are very interesting in Finnish solutions in following areas:

  • Supplies of furniture and equipment
  • architectural concepts
  • digital tools in education and school management
  • didactic materials and new methodology in teaching
  • teachers’ training programs
  • creating the concept of educational organization (evaluation of ”Finnish model in Russia).
  • Interest towards Finnish offering in Education is proved by success of events and programs focused on Finnish education.
